Old Palatine house gets new roof thanks to online vote

Thanks to the kindness of strangers, Diane Fletcher will be getting a new roof on the Palatine home where she's lived for the past 59 years.

Online voters chose Fletcher as the winner in the No Roof Left Behind contest run by Peterson Roofing of Mount Prospect. The public is invited to watch her new roof be built next Saturday, Oct. 25, at her home at 641 S. Bennett Ave.

Fletcher was one of dozens who applied for the free roof in the northern Cook County region. She applied with her husband, Quig, who passed away before they won the roof.

Quig and Diane raised their four children in the house.

Jim Peterson Jr., vice president of Peterson Roofing, said after they told Fletcher voters had chosen her for a new roof, her first thought was how she could help the three other finalists who didn't win.
