'Man Up' event focuses on men's health issues

Elgin, Ill. - For one night, skip the gym and head to the pub - all in the name of men's health.

"Man Up for Men's Health" will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Emmett's Tavern and Brewing Co., 128 W. Main St., West Dundee. The event is hosted by Advocate Sherman Hospital's Men's Health Alliance.

Designed to raise awareness of men's health issues and raise funds for Sherman Hospital's Heart and Vascular Center, the unique event features beer tastings, food and raffle prizes, including a chance to win tickets to an upcoming Chicago Blackhawks game.

Sherman Hospital physicians Dr. Steve Zahn and Dr. Vineet Dandekar will present a brief program on heart attack and stroke, touching on risk factors, signs, symptoms and treatment options. Other physicians will be available to answer men's health-related questions.

The event is free and open to men, women and their families, and kicks off "Movember," which takes place each November to raise awareness of men's health issues.

Donations and raffle-ticket purchases, as well as mustaches - fake and real - are encouraged during the event.

Event sponsorships are also available by calling (224) 783-2500.
