Meadows finishes duals with win over Buffalo Grove

Rolling Meadows used a first-and-third finish in the meet's last event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, to earn a 93-90 finish over Buffalo Grove in girls swimming on Wednesday at the Mustangs' home pool, at Elk Grove.

It wasn't a perfect night for Meadows, as its top medley relay was disqualified in what would have been a winning effort. But the Mustangs were able to overcome that, plus a 1-2-3 Bison sweep in diving, to finish their Mid-Suburban East duals with a 3-2 record.

"We haven't done that in a while," said Meadows coach Monika Chiappetta, "so that was a nice treat."

Jessie Ligenza won the 200-yard IM (2:28.40) and the 100 breaststroke (1:17.78) for the Mustangs. Other individual victories came from Bailey Rowley in the 100 fly (1:04.43) and Teresa Perille in the 100 back (1:08.67).

On senior night, Mustangs senior Erin Pletch anchored the winning 200 free relay with a 26.5 split - necessary for a Meadows victory as Bison senior standout Sarah Morosan split 25.1.

It was a similar scenario in the 400 free relay, as Perille provided the final leg with Meadows finishing in 4:03.31, about three seconds ahead of another quick Morosan finish.

Individually, Morosan won the 50 free (25.69) and the 100 free (55.54), and Alexa Jedryka won the 200 free (2:11.86) and 500 free (5:45.20) for BG.

All that's left before the season-ending sequence of conference, sectional and state for Meadows is an appearance in the Glenbrook South relays on Saturday. The rest of the MSL teams have their final duals scheduled for Thursday.

"I keep telling my girls, I'm looking for details now," said Chiappetta. "Every stroke you take, every streamline on every turn, matters. It all counts now."
