Libertyville clinches NSC Lake crown

Libertyville's girls volleyball team made it look easy.

The visiting Wildcats defeated Warren 25-13, 25-13 Wednesday night to clinch the North Suburban Conference Lake Division title.

Libertyville coach Greg Loika called it a "total team effort," as his Wildcats served tough with 3 aces from Morgan O'Brien and 2 from Sinead Prentiss, "preventing the (Warren) offense from establishing itself," he added.

Libertyville (23-4, 6-0) was balanced on offense with 6 kills from Alex Basler, Anna Lillydahl and Francesca Fusco and 4 from Hannah Zerwas. Liz Apgar had 19 assists and 2 blocks, while O'Brien paced the defense with 19 digs.

Warren (4-2 NSC Lake) was paced by Lauren Frericks (6-of-6 serving, 2 aces, 30-of-30 setting, 6 assists), Kim Hengesh (6-of-6 serving, 1 ace, 5 digs) and Jenna Walczak (4 kills, 6 digs).

Libertyville is the No. 2 seed at the Maine West Pumpkin tourney this weekend and will host the NSC championship match next Wednesday night. Libertyville is the top seed in the Glenbrook North sectional and will compete in the Warren regional beginning Oct. 28.

Stevenson d. Mundelein: Jori Radtke's 10 kills and 10 digs helped the Patriots capture a 25-21, 25-15 decision in North Suburban Lake action.

Stevenson (19-13, 5-1) also received 4 kills from Emily Brasier, 18 assists from Corissa Kurth and 16 digs from Morgan Berland. Anna Drozdzewicz chipped in 3 kills.

Antioch d. Grant: The Sequoits prevailed in the North Suburban Prairie match 13-25, 25-23, 25-21.

Antioch improved to 1-2 in the division.

Grant (2-3 NSC Prairie) was led by Kyle Mueller's 6 kills and 6 aces. Taylor Drake added 4 blocks and 3 kills. Kate Kiser and Kelli Varney each dished out 11 assists for the Bulldogs. Mueller and Megan Whitman led the team with 8 digs apiece.

Vernon Hills d. Round Lake: The Cougars won 25-11, 25-21 to improve to 9-18 and 4-1 in the North Suburban Prairie.
