Gov. Pence's wife to award $15,500 in grants

INDIANAPOLIS - The wife of Gov. Mike Pence is going to award $15,500 in grants from the First Lady's Charitable Foundation to 19 organizations throughout Indiana.

Karen Pence is scheduled to give the organizations checks ranging from $500 to $1,000 on Wednesday in a ceremony at the Governor's Residence. The organizations receiving the money serve Indiana families and children.

She started the Indiana First Lady's Charitable Foundation in August of 2013 to recognize and help organizations and charities. In April, the foundation awarded its first major grant of $100,000 to the Art Therapy Program at Riley Hospital for Children. Throughout the year, the Foundation will recognize organizations with smaller grants.
