Music notes: Bryan Adams brings hits for acoustic set

Alive and kicking

Slaughter, a band that found success at the tail end of the 1980s pop-metal craze, continues to tour and perform anthems like "Fly to the Angels." The group makes a stop in the suburbs this weekend.

8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. Tickets start at $19. Go to oshows.com.

Rock from up north

Canadian rocker Bryan Adams landed at the perfect time with the perfect sound. His slickly produced guitar-driven pop, augmented by his distinctively rough singing voice, offered a nice counterpoint to the synthesizer-based tunes of the 1980s. Adams hits like "Cuts Like a Knife," "Run To You" and "Summer of '69" became anthems of the time, and they still see heavy rotation on classic-rock and '80s-nostalgia radio. Adams has continued to record and tour since his heyday, and he brings a special acoustic show to the Chicago Theatre next week.

8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at the Chicago Theatre, 175 N. State St., Chicago. Tickets starts at $33. Go to thechicagotheatre.com.

'Tis the season

The holidays aren't that far away (gulp!), which means plenty of super-duper deluxe album reissues and box sets are arriving. If you know you have a music-lover on your list, here are some items to think about:

• Smashing Pumpkins, "Adore": The "super deluxe edition" of this acclaimed but divisive 1998 album by Smashing Pumpkins, the alt-rock group led by Glendale Heights native Billy Corgan, includes six CDs of music and one DVD. (smashingpumpkinsnexus.com)

• Tears for Fears, "Songs From the Big Chair": One of the biggest albums of the 1980s gets a lush reissue with four CDs and two DVDs. (tearsforfears.com)

• Bruce Springsteen: The Boss will release remastered editions of his first seven albums on vinyl and CD on Nov. 17. (brucespringsteen.net)

• Sleater Kinney: On Tuesday, this late, great band from the alternative 1990s will release remastered versions of all seven of its albums on CD and vinyl. They can be bought individually or in a limited-edition box set. (subpop.com)
