Clearmont Elementary 'Bear Down' on Bullying

Elementary schools at CCSD59 participate in PBIS (www.pbis.org), an initiative that supports appropriate student behaviors and helps create a positive school environment.

On Sept. 29, students and staff at Clearmont Elementary School in Elk Grove Village enthusiastically welcomed Staley Da Bear from the Chicago Bears. Staley performed at the school's assembly called "Bear Down on Bullying."

Staley spoke about bullying and offered students the language and supports to be able to self advocate. Through interactive and fun demonstrations, students role played different scenarios with Staley.

The school was awarded a banner signed by the Chicago Bears players to demonstrate their commitment to the anti-bullying campaign. Bullying isn't tolerated within the Bears organization, and they are committed to helping prevent it at schools. The banner is a reminder of that.

"We at Clearmont School are committed to providing a community whereby students feel comfortable speaking up and reaching out to an adult to advocate for themselves or peers," said Rachel Solomon, principal at Clearmont. "Our Clearmont community will continue to S.O.A.R. to support, and reinforce the emphasis on the whole child."
