Soroptimist Club accepting applications for Violet Richardson Award

Soroptimist International of Suburban Chicago is now accepting applications for the Violet Richardson Award.

Named after the president of the first Soroptimist club, the Violet Richardson Award honors girls who are making a difference through volunteer service. Each year, Soroptimist clubs honor girls who donate their time and energy to causes that make the community and world a better place - such as working to end discrimination and poverty, assisting women and children who are victims of domestic violence, or mentoring young girls.

The program begins at the local club level ($250 cash award), with club recipients eligible for additional consideration for awards at the district and regional levels of the organization.

Are you or do you know of a young woman, age 14 to 17, who would qualify for this award?

For more information, check the club's website at www.si-suburbanchicago.org under the "Programs and Projects" tab.

You can also access additional information at the Soroptimist International of the Americas website, www.soroptimist.org. To request an application and obtain the local address for submitting the completed application, use the "contact us" link on the club website.

Deadline for submitting completed applications is Monday, Dec. 1.
