Mudd, Grayslake Central celebrate FVC Fox title

Joey Mudd's hat trick was only one reason why Grayslake Central's boys soccer team had reason to celebrate Tuesday night.

Isaac Longenecker added 4 assists, and the Rams won the Fox Valley Conference Fox Division championship for the second year in a row thanks to an 8-1 win over host Woodstock.

Jackson Frey, Jonny Madrid, Chris Quiroz and Ethan Rockel also scored for the Rams. Mudd chipped in an assist, as well.

"I am so proud of all of these kids," said coach Steve Feldman, whose Rams led 5-1 at halftime. "We have worked so hard, and to win back-to-back conference championships is very special and an honor. I hope this run continues in the playoffs."

Grayslake North 1, Prairie Ridge 0: Lucas Buckels headed home Fernando Sanchez's cross with 10 minutes left in the opening half for the lone goal in the Fox Valley Fox match.

Dean Jones (4 saves) and Shane Boyd (2) shared the shutout in net for Grayslake North (11-7-2), which also received strong play from Cole Karabinus, JC Thomas and Danny Wilson, coach Adam DeCaluwe said.

"We did a nice job behind the ball to prevent PR from having any easy looks at our goal and, in turn, we were able to keep another shutout to earn the win," DeCaluwe said. "Our boys worked hard for each other and showed a lot of character and team unity."

Vernon Hills 2, Maine West 1: Nate Peck and Chris White scored for the victorious Cougars in their regular-season finale.

Annikan Ruiz added an assist for Vernon Hills (8-8-3).

New Trier 1, Stevenson 0: Keeper Jeremy Klaber made 9 saves for Stevenson (6-6-5), which allowed the only goal of the nonconference match in the first half.
