Police: Illinois man killed helping with accident

WASHINGTON - Authorities say a Bloomington man has been struck and killed while helping at the scene of an earlier car accident.

Tazewell County Coroner James Baldi said Monday that 55-year-old Brian Epping was pronounced dead Saturday at the scene of the accidents in Washington.

Washington Police Chief Don Volk said Monday that Epping was passing by the scene of a traffic accident at an intersection Saturday evening. He says Epping got out of his car to check on the two people involved and he was hit by another vehicle driven by a 64-year-old man.

Volk says the fatal accident is under investigation. He says the area isn't well lit. No charges have been reported.

Two people in the first accident were treated at a hospital and released.
