Flag placed improperly during first debate

The first gubernatorial debate was a lively and interesting discussion from the two candidates for our state's highest office. The debate should help voters decide whom to vote for in November.

Behind all the debate rhetoric, though, I wish that someone from the League of Women Voters or National Public Radio, who were sponsors of the debate, knew flag etiquette and had set the stage properly. The U.S. flag should always be stage right (i.e., to the viewer's left) of the podium when another flag is on display. The U.S. and Illinois flags were improperly placed during the gubernatorial debate.
