Mission: preserve land, act ethically

I plan to vote to re-elect Shannon Burns as our District 6 commissioner on the DuPage County Forest Preserve Board. I believe a vote for Shannon is a vote for intelligent, environmentally correct management of our publicly owned land.

In her two years on the forest preserve board, I have been amazed at Shannon's outstanding performance and accomplishments. I looked into her background and found that she has formal education as well as hands on experience in land management. Just what is needed. She has completed all of the rigorous coursework through the Morton Arboretum to obtain the credential of Steward of the Land. She has earned a master's degree in business and a doctorate in adult education. Her advanced education is directly applicable to her work on the forest preserve board.

In addition, Commissioner Burns is highly unusual in her dedication to working across political party lines. She has no political party agenda; her agenda is to preserve our land and to conduct business ethically. She actually listens and hears the public and her fellow board members with whom she works collaboratively and appropriately. Then, she considers the input and her research and acts on it.

We need to keep Commissioner Burns on the board, not replace her with someone without qualifications. Shannon Burns' background, training and cooperative attitude make a real difference. She understands the business operations of the forest preserve and the best way to manage the land. No other candidate can beat or measure up to her qualifications.
