Dinner, silent auction to benefit Voice of Hope Behind the Wall

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Batavia invites the community to a spaghetti dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, in the church's Family Life Center, 950 Hart Road.

The dinner and silent auction will benefit the prison ministry Voice of Hope Behind the Wall at Stateville Correctional Center near Joliet. Learn about how Lori Wilbert provides Bible studies, devotions and one-on-one visits with inmates at the prison. Wilbert is the deaconess and prison chaplain for the Northern Illinois District-The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. As her ministry is struggling financially, several area Lutheran churches are joining together to run this fundraiser. Thrivent Financial will match the proceeds from the dinner.

Advance tickets are available in the church office for $10 or $5 for children, age 3 to 10. Tickets at the door will be $15 or $7 for children. For details, call the church office at (630) 879-7163. Visit www.immanuelbatavia.org.

This event is open to all and is sponsored by the following Lutheran churches - Immanuel, Batavia; King of Glory, Elgin; St. John Evangelical, Schaumburg; St. Mark, St. Charles; St. John, Burlington; and Thrivent Financial.

If you wish to donate to this ministry without attending the dinner, mail a check made out to NID-Prison Ministry to LCMS NID Office, 2301 S. Wolf Road, Hillside, IL 60162.

If your congregation is interested in assisting Voice of Hope Behind the Wall or in learning more about Deaconess Wilbert's ministry, contact her through the district office at (708) 449-3020.
