A battered spider web sticks to the points of an aged iron fence surrounding the Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin. The rust and old peeling paint give the photo texture, along with the rich fall colors blending together in the background. I used a 200mm lens at F2.8. I stood as close as possible to keep the web in focus and the background out of focus. This photo was originally published in the Perspective column in the print edtion of the Daily Herald.   I had an assignment in Springfield and decided to stop in and see our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. His family's tomb at Oak Ridge Cemetery is truly a must-see, that contains his wife Mary and three of his four sons. A giant bust of Lincoln greets you with it's well-worn nose that has been rubbed over the years for good luck. In 1876 two Chicago criminals failed in their attempt to steal Lincoln's body and hold it for ransom. The result was that surviving son Robert Todd Lincoln shelled out $700 to have the coffin placed inside a steel cage and encased in concrete 10 feet under the floor of the tomb. For all you movie trivia geeks out there, George Clooney (recently in the news for getting married) and actor Tom Hanks are both related to Abraham Lincoln.
