Sheriff: Hunter dies in Wisconsin accident
TOWN OF STARK, Wis. — Vernon County authorities say a 71-year-old hunter has been found dead after an accident near his 25-feet-high tree stand.
Sheriff John Spears said Sunday that John Zumwalt of South Beloit, Illinois, died near the Town of Stark on Friday. He says Zumwalt was bow hunting for the weekend on family property. His family members went into the woods near his tree stand to look for him when he hadn't returned after dark.
Spears says Zumwalt was found unresponsive on the ground about 10 yards away from the tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene by coroner's office officials.
