The Great Ferret Show comes to St. Charles

The Fox Valley had a sizable population of ferrets Saturday.

The Greatest Ferret Show on Earth came to the Kane County Fairgrounds in St. Charles and brought with it an array of the animals and a festive atmosphere.

The show was presented by the Greater Chicago Ferret Association and featured vendors, ferret supplies, a costume contest and of course, lots of ferrets.

Ninety-four male and female ferrets were entered in the adolescent competition and were judged in eight categories that included several elements of body structure in addition to color, disposition and health and maintenance.

Lori Sies, a scorekeeper from Lynx, Ohio, and a ferret owner for 31 years, said she owns five ferrets at the moment but has helped rescue hundreds over the years.

She said she rescued more than 800 ferrets at once from a breeder in 2007 and through connections in the ferret community, found rescues and homes for all of them within six weeks all across the country as well as Canada.
