Endorsement: Crespo for his positive record in House Dist. 44

The 44th House District - covering parts of Hoffman Estates, Streamwood, Hanover Park and Schaumburg - has a groundbreaking race this November. Two candidates with Hispanic roots are vying for the seat: state Rep. Fred Crespo of Hoffman Estates and Ramiro Juarez, of Streamwood, an elementary school teacher in Elgin Area District U-46.

In line with their constituency, both appear to be among the more moderate members of their respective parties, Crespo a Democrat and Juarez a Republican. Both are opposed to extending the income tax increase (Crespo did not support it initially); both believe in governing from their home base, and listening to their constituents; both reject the idea of transferring the pension debt to local school districts.

The difference is that while Juarez is bright, articulate and a definite comer in the suburban GOP, Crespo has the record. He has taken positions contrary to the Democratic leadership. Suburban municipal leaders, including some Republicans, consider him one of the most responsive legislators in the area. He shows up to local events, not just to politic, but to contribute. We consider Fred Crespo a good representative of suburban values and issues, and therefore he is endorsed
