Egghead Halloween Costume Contest at Batavia library

Egghead, a bronze sculpture that sits upon a wall outside of the Batavia Public Library, is a favorite among patrons and employees alike.

Throughout the year, library employees photograph Egghead dressed in outfits related to holidays and current events, and then post the photos on the library website, Facebook page, and Pinterest.

This fall the library is having an Egghead Halloween Costume Contest.

Now through Oct. 30, library visitors can vote for their favorite costume.

Photographs of Egghead in costumes created by employees are on display at the library. Visitors of all ages are invited to vote (one vote per person).

Voters are asked to write their name and telephone number on their ballot. The library will hold a drawing on Halloween and one lucky voter will win a $25 gift card to Pal Joey's of Batavia, courtesy of the restaurant.

The costume with the most votes will win the "People's Choice" award and the creator of the winning costume will win a small prize. The winning costume will be announced on Halloween, at the library and at www.bataviapubliclibrary.org.

Egghead, created by artist Kimber (Kim Fiebiger), was purchased with donations from the Friends of the Batavia Public Library, students at the Batavia Nursery School, and the general public. The sculpture was dedicated and placed on the wall in April 2004.

Egghead has been dressed for the 2014 World Cup, Halloween, summer, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, and the last regular season game of Chicago Bears. Visit www.pinterest.com/bataviapl/ to see photographs of Egghead and the contest entries.
