Oct. 24: Man Up Male Success Conference at CLC

The Fifth Annual Man Up male student success conference, sponsored by the College of Lake County, will be held on Friday, Oct. 24. Man Up V: A Day in the Arts will feature four spoken word artists - Phe Nom, Awthentik, Moe-Mentum and Odyssey.

This free event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.in the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington Street, Grayslake. It is designed for Lake County high school and college students and also includes a variety of success workshops and lunch.

Phe Nom has been rhyming in Chicago since age 13. His goal is to become a legendary artist whose passion ignites audiences. His style has been compared to rappers Mos Def, Busta Rhymes and Ludacris. Awthentik is a spoken word artist from Chicago who's had a passion for writing and performing since she was 18. Moe-Mentum and Odyssey are two friends who minister to the hurt and lost through spoken word poetry. Both have overcome life-threatening tragedies.
