ECC places second, third in Illinois student film competition

Elgin Community College claimed second and third place in the first Illinois Community College Film Competition, co-sponsored by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association and the Chicago International Social Change Film Festival.

The statewide film competition is a series of competitions during which students create a 5-minute film for their school, community and a local small business intended to enhance school engagement, pride and awareness.

The competition was divided into two categories, institutional and small business/nonprofit. The six winning films were among 13 finalists screened during the Chicago International Social Change Film Festival on Sept. 26-27.

Elgin Community College's entry, "Decision Time," which focuses on the benefits of attending ECC, claimed third place and a $250 prize in the institutional category.

ECC also took second place and a $500 prize in the small business/nonprofit category with entry, "La Roca," featuring a Latino grocery on Elgin's east side.

The entries were pooled from dozens of student entries from 48 community colleges across the state. All of the student entries can be viewed on the Reel Illinois YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/channel/UCzLhiYemNk-d0Y8GB0J80dg.
