Chicago aldermen want Ebola screening at airports
Two Chicago aldermen want international passengers arriving at the city's two airports screened for the Ebola virus and other infectious diseases.
Aldermen Edward Burke and Michael Zalewski introduced an ordinance Wednesday that would require screening facilities at Midway and O'Hare.
The ordinance was introduced the same day federal authorities announced a plan to take the temperatures of travelers from the West African countries at the heart of the Ebola outbreak who arrive at O'Hare and airports in four other cities.
That led the director of the Illinois Department of Public Health to describe the proposed city ordinance as "overkill." Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck says the federal response is adequate for now.
Meanwhile, officials at a Dallas hospital said Wednesday that the first Ebola patient diagnosed in the United States has died.
