New restaurant to open in Rosemont's village hall

A Schaumburg-based restaurant group is planning to open two new restaurants within blocks of each other in Rosemont as early as next month.

Ala Carte Entertainment officials already announced plans in August to open a Moretti's at the west end of a strip mall on Higgins Road, west of River Road.

On Wednesday, they revealed their latest venture: a new neighborhood restaurant/bar called Rosie's Rivers Edge Tavern coming to the first floor of Rosemont's village hall, 9501 W. Devon Ave.

The new restaurant will be located in the now-vacant space of the former Cafe Zalute, which closed Sept. 27 after 10 years in business.

Mayor Brad Stephens said village officials attempted to extend a lease with Cafe Zalute, but the "financial end wasn't working" for the owner. Monthly rent increased from $2,500 to $6,000.

Cafe Zalute owner Butch Navarro said on his Facebook page that he is looking forward to his "next restaurant and or catering adventure."

Mark Hoffman, Ala Carte's vice president, said his new restaurant will feature "chef-driven comfort food," such as pig roast-style pulled pork, steaks, burgers and sandwiches. Patrons also will be able to order off Moretti's menu.

The restaurant will open at 7 a.m. every day for breakfast. Carryout will be available, and there's also a chance delivery will be offered, Hoffman said.

The first floor has room for as many as 175 people, and the basement level, where private parties can be held, has room for another 100. The lower level will also host nightly karaoke after 9 p.m.

Crews soon will begin interior renovations, using recycled wood to create a "Northwoods feel," Hoffman said.

"It's going to be a great neighborhood place for residents and businesses," he said.

An opening before Thanksgiving is planned.

At the nearby strip mall, Ala Carte plans to begin renovation of three existing storefronts at 9515-9519 W. Higgins Road after Jan. 1 for the new Moretti's. An addition will be constructed on the west side of the property, Hoffman said. The restaurant could open as early as next spring.

Ala Carte bought the entire strip mall from the village for $3.4 million in August.
