See slam poetry champions perform at CLC

A performance by nationally known slam poets Ken Arkind and Marty McConnell will be presented at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 in Room C005 (C Wing Auditorium) at the College of Lake County Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

Ken Arkind, a National Poetry Slam Champion and full-time touring artist, is half of The Dynamic Duo, the nation's most highly booked spoken word act for the past two years.

He has been featured in documentaries, was a member of the highly influential Spilljoy Ensemble tour and is the founding program director of Denver Minor Disturbance, an independent literary arts organization for Colorado youth. To learn more about him, visit www.kenarkind.tumblr.com.

Marty McConnell is the author of "wine for a shotgun" (2012), a finalist for both the Audre Lorde Award and the Lambda Literary Award for lesbian poetry. A member of seven National Poetry Slam teams representing New York City and Chicago, McConnell is the 2012 National Underground Poetry Individual Competition Champion.

The event is free and open to the community. The reading is being co-sponsored by the CLC Communication Arts, Humanities and Fine Arts division and the LGBTQ Resource Center.
