Prospect, Barrington win boys golf regionals

Add "regional champion: to Prospect's list of boys golf accomplishments this season.

The Mid-Suburban League co-champs came up with the low score Tuesday in the Class 3A boys golf regional hosted by Notre Dame at Chevy Chase Golf Course.

Robert Garmoe led the way with a day that was certainly memorable. His 69 included a hole-in-one and also netted him medalist honors.

Also contributing for the Knights were Jack Kavanagh (73), TJ Swan (78), Johnny Bruno (79), Grant Gavin (80) and Joey Dellanina (81) as Prospect's score of 299 was more than 20 strokes better than second place.

The other teams advancing to next week's New Trier sectional were Notre Dame (322) and Oak Park-River Forest (324). Elk Grove (336) finished fifth and Maine West (348) placed seventh in the team standings.

Leyden junior Gabe Garcia shot 81 and was among the individual sectional advancers.

Elk Grove had three players move on as individuals - junior Jordan Guerrero and senior Jack McEnroe with 83s, and senior Justin Kawako with an 85.

Maine West will be represented at the sectional by senior Michael Fowler; he shot 84.

McHenry sectional: Tom Calbi and Barrington were in a class of their own, taking top individual and team honors at McHenry Country Club.

Calbi and Prairie Ridge's Ethan Farnam, both sophomores, were tied at 72 after 18 holes; Calbi won their 1-hole playoff to claim medalist honors.

Barrington shot 299 with strong efforts from senior Joey Batliner (75), junior Burke Barsamian and senior Kevin Altenberger (76s), sophomore Timothy Lim (77) and junior Cole Kempinski (78).

Prairie Ridge (312) and Cary-Grove earned the other team qualification spot to next week's Lake Forest sectional.
