Police raid 9 Fort Wayne homes in spice crackdown

Associated Press

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Local, state and federal law enforcement agencies raided nine Fort Wayne-area homes in a crackdown targeting the illegal sale and manufacture of the synthetic drug known as spice.

Fort Wayne police say that at one of the homes officers discovered a kilogram of a raw synthetic chemical used to spray spice. Police says that's enough to make 28 pounds of synthetic marijuana.

Officers arrested 12 people on charges including dealing a synthetic or lookalike drug and corrupt business influence.

Officers found three children 6 and younger at one home and placed them with child protection workers.

About 100 officers participated in the raids. They included agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and an FBI Safe Streets Task Force.
