Students use vibrant fall leaf colors to create artwork

Fall colors were in full bloom Tuesday at the Fremont Public Library's "Autumn Leaves: A Painting Workshop" given by art teacher Christine Thornton of Mount Prospect.

Twenty-nine artists, from novice to experienced, learned how to draw different leaf varieties on watercolor paper, then use watercolor pencils to add vibrant colors to their leaves.

"It's been a couple of years since I did watercolors, and I thought, gosh this seems nice, plus I'm trying to teach my grandson art," said Genevieve Connor of Mundelein.

Thornton, a graduate of the University of Illinois art department, said she's heard how much people enjoy such art.

"People tell me all the time that they used to do this and it's been ages, but now they're getting back into it," she said. "To me it's so inspiring that people have the courage to come in and do something that they haven't done in so long."
