Job openings in U.S. rose by 230,000 in August to 4.84 million

The number of job positions waiting to be filled in the U.S. was 4.84 million in August, up from a revised 4.6 million the prior month, the Labor Department reported today in Washington.

The median forecast in a Bloomberg survey of economists called for 4.7 million openings after a previously reported 4.67 million in July.
