Blackhawks add feisty, energetic Carcillo to roster
He's baaack.
In a surprise move, the Blackhawks brought back forward Daniel Carcillo and added him to their training camp roster.
Carcillo, 29, who played in 51 regular-season games and four playoff games with the Hawks from 2011-13, has since had stints with the Los Angeles Kings and the New York Rangers. Most recently, the highly charged forward was participating in training camp with the Pittsburgh Penguins but was hindered by a foot injury.
Tough guy Brandon Mashinter, who was in the running for one of the final roster spots, suffered an injury Wednesday against Montreal, perhaps necessitating the addition of Carcillo.
Coach Joel Quenneville is looking for the veteran forward to provide two things: energy and physical play.
"We like the presence that he had with our team there in the lockout year," Quenneville told reporters. "He gives us energy. He's one of those guys that can be disruptive, plays hard, can be used in situations where all of a sudden he was playing with Jonathan (Toews) and (Marian) Hossa. He can play on a line where you expect him to be a banger and a crasher and play that type of role for us."
