JOURNEYS lauds laundry aid from medical centers

Two days before Northwest suburban homeless shelters' Oct. 1 opening for the cold weather months, JOURNEYS | The Road Home received word that its primary donator of laundry service would no longer provide clean linens for 13 of its 18 sites.

However, two medical centers, which already jointly did laundry for the five other shelters, quickly agreed to take over all the sites, the agency said in a news release.

The Palatine-based agency was "shocked to learn that laundry service to 13 of our 18 sites was terminated with no notice," said Beth Nabors, executive director. "But by the afternoon of the following day, our angels at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Alexian Brothers Medical Center stepped to the plate."

"When JOURNEYS called to ask for our help cleaning an additional 13 PADS sites' linens, we were glad we could provide the needed assistance," said D'Marcus Lewis, director of Environmental Services at Alexian Brothers Medical Center.
