Carlson, St. Viator rise to the top in ESCC

Nick Carlson shot an even par 71 to tie for medalist honors with Carmel Catholic's Riley Ley in the East Suburban Catholic Conference boys golf tournament on Thursday. In a sudden death playoff, Carlson earned the league title by getting a birdie on the first hole at Old Oak Country Club in Homer Glen.

Carlson was named the ESCC's player of the year and is the eighth conference champion in the program's storied history.

St. Viator also claimed top team honors by shooting a season-best scored of 298, ahead of runner-up Benet Academy (307) by 9 strokes.

The conference title is St. Viator's 17th. This is the 17th conference title in the history of the school.

Nick Carlson, John Carlson (74), Matt Trimberger (76), Liam Warner (77), Frank Kasper (78) and Preston Drehobl (81) each earned all-ESCC honors under coach Jack Halpin.
