Schaumburg, Fremd still tied in West

The Schaumburg and Fremd girls volleyball teams remained tied for first in the Mid-Suburban West with two-set wins on Thursday night.

The Saxons posted a 25-17, 25-23 victory at Barrington as Abbie Rahn (9 kills), Oyinkan Akinola (6) and Lexi Ross (2) led the attack set by Jada Blackwell (11 assists) and Megan Hayes (5 assists).

Hannah Moore collected 9 digs for the Saxons who raised their record to 14-6 and 6-1 in the MSL West while Barrington is 5-16 and 2-5.

Fremd d. Conant: The visiting Vikings (15-5, 6-1) were led on attack by Lane Hindenburg (14 kills), Hope Schroeder (8) and Ysabel Lee (7) in a 25-13, 25-18 victory.

Carly Roberts (14 assists) and Jackie Mursuli (7) set the offense while Aubrey Stegich had 10 digs and Hindenburg 9.

The Cougars (8-13, 2-5) were led by Jorie Wachal (3 kills) while DeeDee Durr, Elisa Ambrose and Katie Lomas each had 2 apiece.

Palatine d. Hoffman Estates: Junior middle hitter Heather Holz, coming off an all-tourney appearance at Prospect's Pifer Invite last Saturday, put down 8 kills for the host Pirates who won the 'Volley for a Cure' match 25-12, 25-21.

Palatine (16-7, 5-2) also received 5 kills apiece from Jess Lundell and Meg Angelaccio, who were taking their cues from sophomore setter Sydney Christiansen, also an all-tourney pick last weekend.

Alyssa Kronberg had 4 aces and 4 digs for the Pirates against the Hawks (2-18, 0-7).

Hersey d. Elk Grove: MSL East leader Hersey (18-4, 7-0) drew to within a match of clinching first place with a 25-17, 25-8 victory. Kelly Hill (10 kills), Liz Fuerst (8) and Gabri Olhava (7) led Hersey's attack set by Courtney Stedman (53-of-53, 29 assists) and Caity Strozewski (4-of-4, 3 assists).

Host Elk Grove (5-15, 1-6) was paced on attack by Amber Lindfors (5 kills), Tayler Merkel and Carly Crothers (2).

Prospect d. Rolling Meadows: Carolyn Sherrick had 4 kills while Brenda Kendziera, Maggie Porwit, Mary Mazurek and Sammy Withey had 3 assists for host Prospect (10-11. 4-3) in its 25-20, 25-17 victory.

Rolling Meadows (5-16, 1-7) received 5 kills from Nora Rasche and 4 from Maddie Sellergren.

Buffalo Grove d. Wheeling: Host Buffalo Grove improved to 13-8 and 5-2 with a 25-20, 25-21 victory over the Wildcats (9-11, 4-3). Wheeling was led by Timber Terrell (6 kill) and Deanna Kuzmanic (5) while Alexa Laureano had 16 digs and Sabrina Semeria 10 assists.

Nazareth d. St. Viator: Nazareth posted a 25-17, 25-13 victory over the host Lions (17-7-1, 1-2) in the East Suburban Catholic Conference. Grace Fedus had 4 kills for Viator while teammates Kaitlin O'Brien handed out 7 assists and Ellie Meyer collected 15 digs.
