Wheaton Reads events

All Wheaton Reads events are free and will take place at the Wheaton Public Library, 225 N. Cross St. Registration is required for the book discussions on "The Hound of the Baskervilles" and most of the special events. Visit wheatonlibrary.org/calendar to register online. Thursday, Oct. 2: "The Beekeeper's Apprentice" book discussion, 7 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 5: Sherlock Holmes: Under the Magnifying Glass, 2 p.m. Mystery author Linda Mickey will discuss Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's role in the annals of detective fiction and compare Sherlock Holmes' canon to the Detection Club's rules.

Monday, Oct. 6: "The Hound of the Baskervilles" book discussion, 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 8: "The Beekeeper's Apprentice" book discussion, 10 a.m.

Monday, Oct. 13: Movie showing of "The Great Mouse Detective," 1 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 12: Beekeeping 101, 2 p.m. Local beekeepers Charles and Karen Lorence will share information about one of Sherlock's favorite pastimes: beekeeping.

Tuesday, Oct. 14: "The Beekeeper's Apprentice" book discussion, 10 a.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 15: Movie showing of the 1939 version of "The Hound of the Baskervilles," 1 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 16: Footloose in England, 7 p.m. Travel enthusiast John Lynn takes guests on a walking tour of England, which will include a discussion about the infamous moors.

Friday, Oct. 17: DIY Bottle cap jewelry, 3:30 p.m. Preteens and teens in grades six through 12 are welcome to make Sherlock-inspired bottle cap jewelry or key chains. All supplies are provided.

Sunday, Oct. 19: Radio Players: "The Speckled Band" and the "Scandal in Bohemia," 2 p.m. Those Were the Days Radio Players West will perform two Sherlock Holmes mysteries based on the original scripts of radio performances from 1945.

Monday, Oct. 20: "The Hound of the Baskervilles" book discussion, 11 a.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 21: Movie showing of "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," 1 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 23: Sherlockian Cooking with Chef Maddox, 7 p.m. Chef Michael Maddox will prepare foods that Sherlock would have eaten in Victorian London.

Sunday, Oct. 26: Vivaldi Strings Concert, 2 p.m. In a nod to Sherlock's hobby of playing the violin, an ensemble from Wheaton College's Community School of the Arts will perform on the main floor of the library.

Wednesday, Oct. 29: "The Hound of the Baskervilles" book discussion, 7:30 p.m.
