Giving Hope fundraiser to support Faith Community Homes

"Giving Hope" is the theme for Faith Community Homes' annual fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Metropolis Ballroom and Theatre. It will feature stories of families that Faith Community Homes has successfully helped to become financially stable.

Two and a half years ago, Faith Community Homes was approached by a group of mothers from a local school. They knew the children of a family that was about to lose their apartment because of a lack of funds to pay the rent. They offered to help offset the initial expenses if Faith Community Homes would take on this family, find them a home and give them the mentoring and strengthening support that they needed.

With the continued backing of these women, the family has completed two years with Faith Community Homes and are living independently, able to pay rent and are considerably more stable financially and emotionally. The dad has developed his small business, and the mom is going to Harper, working on her studies in manufacturing technology.

Dale and Greg Ford were mentors for this family through the two years, meeting with them weekly to help them with budgeting, child care and employment skills and encouraging the mom in her educational goals. The Fords are currently mentoring their third family and are among several couples who have taken on numerous Faith Community Homes families to mentor. Guidance and encouragement from their mentors are the keys to the success of families in the Faith Community Homes program.

Faith Community Homes provides these along with some rent assistance and professional support and works with families in the Arlington Heights and Palatine areas. Many more families are waiting to be accepted in the program. Proceeds from Giving Hope will allow Faith Community Homes to help more deserving families.

The event will include entertainment by popular comedian Mike Toomey, as well as a silent and live auction.
