Man charged in 2009 death of Chicago woman

Illinois State Police has announced its Cold Case Squad has solved the death of a woman reported missing to a South suburban police department.

Dolton police asked state police to lead the investigation into the death of 37-year-old Arika Sims of Chicago. She was last seen in March 2009. Her body was found weeks later in the Little Calumet River. The Cook County medical examiner's office ruled Sims had been strangled.

State police announced Wednesday murder charges were filed against 31-year-old Tyrik Knight

State Police Director Hiram Grau says investigators determined Sims was in the company of Knight before she was reported missing.

Grau said investigators were able to solve the case through numerous interviews, tips and visits to known acquaintances.

It wasn't immediately known if Knight has legal representation.
