Learn about library referendums at October forums

On Nov. 4, the ballot for all voters in the Gail Borden Public Library District will include a question asking whether unserved people living within the library district boundaries should become members of the library district.

This question also will be on a small number of voter ballots for residents who currently have no public library service and are located within the library's far western border. For areas to be able to come into the district, current library district residents and the current unserved residents, by precinct, must pass this question.

Library representatives will give an informational presentation about the geographic referendum and answer questions at the forums. Some of the information to be discussed will involve the role that public libraries play in helping children read, the number of students and families in Gail Borden's western geographic area that do not have public library service and that this referendum question will have no tax impact on current library district members.

The forums will be held on:

• Monday, Oct. 6, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the main library, 270 N. Grove, Elgin;

• Thursday, Oct. 9, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Rakow Branch 2741 W. Bowes Road, Elgin.

Contact Denise Raleigh at (847) 429-5981 or draleigh@gailborden.info with any questions. For information on this geographic referendum, including maps, visit gailborden.info/library-info/geographic-referendum.
