Quad City International Airport gets $500,ooo grant

MOLINE - The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded Quad City International Airport a $500,000 grant to grow new air service between Northwest Illinois and Washington, D.C.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin announced the grant on Monday. The funding was awarded through the transportation department's Small Community Air Service Program, which works to help small airports improve services around the country.

Durbin's office says the airport will use the money for marketing efforts and as a revenue guarantee that will allow the airport to provide new service to the East Coast.

Durbin says that access to reliable air services is "essential to growing businesses that create jobs in Illinois."

The money comes on top of recent grants the airport has received to reconstruct its runway and increase its snow removal fleet.
