Trial delayed for Waukegan man accused of killing family

The trial of a 54-year-old Waukegan man accused of killing his wife and disabled daughter has been postponed until 2015.

Lake County Judge George Bridges approved the trial delay for Anthony Marcus until Jan. 12 while a mental health evaluation is obtained. The two sides are due back in court Oct. 27 for a status update.

Assistant State's Attorney Matt DeMartini and defense attorney Keith Grant agreed to the delay.

Marcus faces up to life in prison if found guilty of killing wife Sun Marcus, 50, and daughter, Samantha, 17, on June 8.

A man called Waukegan police to the 4100 block of Continental Drive at 6:15 p.m. claiming he had killed his family and slit his own wrists, authorities said.

Upon arrival, authorities said, a note was found under the front door addressed to a "Michelle." The note read, "I'm sorry. Your dad is a failure at everying (sic)," officials said.

The bodies were found strangled in the basement of the home, authorities said. The family dog also was found dead, police said.

Marcus was treated for his wounds at Vista Medical Center East, police said. He was taken from the hospital to Lake County jail.

He remains in Lake County jail in lieu of $5 million bond. He faces 18 counts of murder.
