Batavia park gets new handicap accessible surface

Marklund residents were able to try out the new rubberized surface at the South Mill Creek Community Park Tuesday, and utilize part of the park that had previously been hard to access.

The park, which is in Blackberry Township, previously had a base of wood chips and has been updated to a rubber poured-in-place surface that allows anyone with a mobility challenge to enjoy the park.

"This is really cool and it's really bouncy," said Carolyn Nagle, executive director at Fox Valley Special Recreation Association after walking on the new surface.

Representatives from the Batavia Park District, FVSRA, and Marklund were on hand to discuss the impact the new play surface will have on people with mobility challenges.
