Hanover Park man charged with assaulting infant

A Hanover Park man was ordered held on $650,000 bail on charges he sexually assaulted an infant, prosecutors said.

Cole Eben, 19, was arrested Sept. 24 on charges of predatory criminal sexual assault, a class X felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

At about 8:30 a.m. Sept. 23, day care employees noticed blood in the baby's diaper and contacted her mother, who took the 13-month old to her pediatrician, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Shin.

The pediatrician referred the mother to the St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, where emergency room doctors noticed signs of sexual abuse, Shin said. The baby was hospitalized, Shin said. Eben, who has no criminal background, made statements implicating himself, Shin said.

Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo ordered Eben have no contact with the baby or her mother, Shin said.

Eben next appears in court on Oct. 16.
