Oct. 5: CLC Dental Hygiene students and staff walk to support Oral Cancer Federation

Seventeen College of Lake County dental hygiene students and five faculty and staff members will participate in the Third Annual Walk/Run the Oral Cancer Foundation (OCF) in Bensenville on Oct. 5. The event is one of two walks being held in Illinois that day to raise funds and awareness in the fight against oral cancer.

"The CLC Dental Hygiene Program is proud of our students' involvement in the OCF Walk/Run," said Sue Nierstheimer, director of the Dental Hygiene program. "This will give us an opportunity to help raise money and awareness for a health issue that strongly impacts the dental profession. Our students perform an oral cancer screening on all the patients seen in our Lakeshore Campus clinic in Waukegan. The OFC Walk/Run gives them a chance to bring their experience to an even larger population and work alongside other health care providers for a common goal."

The Oral Cancer Foundation is a national public service, IRS registered non-profit (501c) 3 entity, designed to reduce suffering and save lives through prevention, education, research, advocacy, and patient support activities. The foundation is primarily supported by donations from survivors and family and friends of victims of the disease.

For more information about the CLC Dental Hygiene program, visit the website or contact Sue Nierstheimer (847) 543-2638 or bio558@clcillinois.edu. Information sessions to explain the degree program and career will be held at noon in Room N 135 at the Lakeshore Campus on the following dates: Oct. 1, Nov. 5 and Dec. 3.
