Illinois road reopens after gasoline spill

MARISSA - A southwestern Illinois road has reopened after a fuel truck overturned and spilled 2,800 gallons of gasoline.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports workers have finished cleaning the spill on Illinois 4 in Marissa after the road was closed for about 12 hours Sunday. St. Clair County's emergency management director says no one was hurt in the accident and no evacuations were necessary.

Authorities say the fuel truck driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed in a ditch, rupturing the fuel tank. An environmental restoration crew siphoned about 6,000 gallons of fuel remaining in the tank after the spill.

The emergency management director didn't say if any environmental damage occurred.
