Mundelein District 75 teachers authorize strike after contract talks stall

Labor uncertainty has hit a second Lake County school district with the authorization this week by teachers in Mundelein Elementary District 75 to proceed with a strike. Results released Thursday showed the 144-member Mundelein Elementary Education Association voted 122-13 to authorize the action, which followed an unsuccessful mediation session Sept. 19. Police seeking man after Lake Villa school lockdown

Police were searching for a 27-year-old Round Lake Beach man accused of attacking his girlfriend early yesterday, then forcing the lockdown of three Lake Villa schools while eluding capture. A $500,000 arrest warrant has been issued for Daniel Acevedo on two counts of aggravated domestic battery, Round Lake Beach Police Deputy Chief Mike Scott said. Acevedo battered the woman at a home on Lake Shore Drive in Round Lake Beach, Scott said. Full story.

Tollway workers will have to start paying tolls in 2015

The Illinois tollway will eliminate a free ride for workers in 2015. A majority of employees now get a break on paying tolls to and from work using "nonrevenue" transponders. But after a contract settlement with one of the agency's larger unions, the agency announced it was ending the practice. Full story.

Dold voices support for health care reform, not repeal

In something of a break from many of his Republican colleagues, former U.S. Rep. Robert Dold yesterday said he'd rather fix elements of the Affordable Care Act than scrap the controversial health care reform law entirely. "What we really ought to be saying is, 'What do we want our health care to look like?'" Dold said. "I think that we want patient-centered care." Full story.

Search planned for missing Bartlett man

Family and friends are organizing a search Saturday for a Bartlett father of five who has been missing since August. Keith Crawford, 36, was last seen at a party near West Dundee on Aug. 9, police said last month. "It has been very difficult," said his mother, Regina Myles. "We are praying for him every night." Royals rally past Sox, but Konerko has hope for his team

As he prepares for retirement after Sunday's game at U.S. Cellular Field, Paul Konerko is wrapping up his second straight losing season with the White Sox. But the 38-year-old captain sees better days ahead for the franchise. "It feels like there's a lot more of a foundation now and a direction of what they're doing," Konerko said before the Sox lost to the Kansas City Royals 6-3 last night. Full story.

Unless by "bad" you're talking about a 95.1 passer rating, which soars to 114.6 in the fourth quarter (seventh best in the NFL) and 102.4 on third downs (eighth in the league). Full story.

Former Bears defensive end Julius Peppers plays outside linebacker in the Packers' 3-4 base defense, but the 6-foot-7, 287-pound, 13-year veteran also plays some D-line when the Packers use a 4-3 alignment in certain nickel situations. "They're doing a good job of resting him and then playing him, so he's staying fresh," said Bears offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer. Full story.
