A Safe Place candle lighting:

A Safe Place will celebrate its 22nd annual Candle Lighting on Thursday, Oct. 2, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Waukegan Police Department, 420 Robert V. Sabonjian Place. To honor victims of domestic violence and their struggles, all in attendance will walk in solidarity to a reception at College of Lake County's Lakeshore Campus at 1 N. Genesee St., Room N008. The reception will feature State Sen. Melinda Bush, Lake County State's Attorney Michael Nerheim and Pat Davenport, executive director of A Safe Place, and include light refreshments. Candle lighting celebrates the journey out of the darkness after victims have experienced domestic abuse. Each and every victim travels a different path through A Safe Place to reach their goal of fulfillment and empowerment.
