Elk Grove Village buys salt for winter

Elk Grove Village has purchased $446,983 worth of salt in preparation for winter.

The village board this week inked a $228,743 contract for the delivery of 4,030 tons of bulk rock salt from Cargill Incorporated Salt Division of North Olmsted, Ohio, secured through a state joint purchasing program. It represents a 5 percent increase over last year's prices.

Since the state contract limits the amount of salt that can be purchased, the board last month approved a supplemental $218,240 contract for 2,200 tons of salt from North American Salt Company.

Elk Grove has 700 tons of salt left over from last winter at its salt barn at 1000 Oakton St.
