Arlington Heights police investigating sex assault

Arlington Heights police are warning residents to make sure their homes are locked and secure after the sexual assault of a woman early Thursday morning inside her residence.

Police said the woman was assaulted about 2 a.m. Thursday in the 2400 block of South Embers Lane by a man who also stole an unknown amount of jewelry.

The man is described as standing about 5'6", with an average build, short, dark curly hair and olive skin. The assailant, who was unshaven and spoke with an unknown accent, was wearing dark khaki-style pants and a dark polo-style shirt, police said.

Preliminary investigation indicates the man entered the residence through an unsecured window, according to police.

The victim was transported to Northwest Community Hospital, where she was treated and released, police said.

Investigators are seeking witnesses who can provide assistance in identifying the suspect. The police department can be reached at (847) 368-5300.

Police said residents should in particular be sure accessible windows are locked or have stops in place to limit how far the window can be opened to prevent unauthorized entry.
