Frassati, Transfiguration, St. Mary host School Choice rallies

Catholic Consortium of Lake County's students, teachers, educators and parents gathered Thursday for an Illinois School Choice Rally Day.

Frassati Catholic Academy and Transfiguration Elementary School in Wauconda held their rally around the school's flagpole, while St. Mary Elementary met on the front lawn of their school in Mundelein. The purpose of the rally is to show support for School Choice, explain the benefits for families in Illinois and to empower parents to choose the best educational opportunities for their children, organizers said.

Students waved handmade signs as Frassati Principal Diane Vida spoke at the gathering.

"Today we hope that we are united so we can advocate fair education and opportunities for all students," Vida said. "With more options and fewer implements that may direct us away from what's important, families can find and maintain a good school, a good school education that works best for their children."

Besides local rallies, a centralized School Choice Rally kicked off at the State of Illinois Building in Chicago.
