Rolling Meadows man charged with assaulting teen
A 49-year-old Rolling Meadows man charged with sexually assaulting a teenager was ordered held on $350,000 bail Wednesday.
Juan Munoz-Tapia, of the 4900 block of Algonquin Parkway, was charged with criminal sexual assault, after authorities said a teenage boy reported Munoz-Tapia attacked him last Friday.
The teen, who knew Munoz-Tapia from around qthe apartment complex, ran into him Friday at the complex's park, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Elizabeth Brogan.
Munoz-Tapia is accused of inviting the teen to his apartment for food and beverages, Brogan said. Once inside, Munoz-Tapia locked the door, closed the blinds and attacked the boy, Brogan said.
Afterward, the defendant warned the teen "in a threatening manner" not to tell anyone about what happened, she said.
Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo ordered Munoz-Tapia to have no contact with the boy or his family.
Prosecutors said Munoz-Tapia has no criminal background.
If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison.
He next appears in court on Oct. 16.
