Girls volleyball: Fox Valley roundup

Cary-Grove d. Dundee-Crown: As they looked to continue their march through the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division, the Trojans (13-4, 5-0) were forced to rally after dropping the second game and narrowly escaped with Game 3, defeating the Chargers 25-7, 24-26, 25-23. Abby Schebel led the offense with 10 kills while Bree Coffey and Morgan Lee had 18 digs and 5 blocks respectively. Kiana Mays led the Chargers (11-6, 1-3) with 9 kills and 2 aces and Frankie Cavallaro helped out with 4 kills and 2 aces of her own as well as 15 assists and 7 digs.

Grayslake Central d. Hampshire: After a rocky start the Whip-Purs pushed the Rams to three games but came up just short, falling 25-7, 15-25, 25-18 in an FVC Fox Division showdown. Olivia Magnussen finished with 7 kills for the Whips while teammate Brittany Laffin added a pair of aces, 5 digs and 23 assists.

St. Charles East d. Streamwood: A tough first set put the Sabres (2-16, 0-4) in a big hole against St. Charles East, eventually falling to the Saints 25-3, 25-18 in Upstate Eight Conference River Division play. Lauren Schiferl and Taylor Williams each had 2 kills for the Sabres. Schiferl also added 7 digs as did teammate Jessica Daley.

Metea Valley d. South Elgin: The Storm (4-7-1, 1-3) took Metea Valley to the limit but could not get the UEC Valley Division win, falling 25-17, 20-25, 25-17. Katie Innis led the offense with 5 kills and a pair of aces, along with 5 digs, while Renne Rush also added 5 kills and 19 assists with 7 digs.

Geneva d. Elgin: After having trouble getting their offense going the Maroons (10-11, 1-3) could not catch up to a strong Viking attack, dropping a 25-8, 25-16 match in UEC River Division action. A bright spot for Elgin was the play of Emily Hurprich, who did a little bit of everything with 6 assists, 3 digs, 1 kill and an ace. Alisha Panthier led the Maroons with 3 kills.

West Aurora d. Bartlett: A critical third set did not go the Hawks' way as West Aurora fended off a comeback attempt and dropped Bartlett 26-24, 21-25, 25-12 in UEC Valley Division play. Hunter McCord led the Hawks with 6 kills while teammate Andie Sobotka added 17 digs and Danielle Santucci came up with 9 assists.

Burlington Central d. Johnsburg: A tough first game led into an easy second as the Rockets (12-4, 5-0) won in the Big Northern East. Aly DeTamble led all attackers with 7 kills, 5 digs and 2 aces. Jenna Runde added 4 aces and 7 digs, with teammate Mackenzie Whitmer finishing with 11 assists and 5 digs.

Harvest Christian d. Alden-Hebron: The Lions (6-5, 3-0) continue their hot-streak against their main opponents, staying perfect in Northeastern Athletic Conference play with a 25-18, 25-10 win. Amanda Cassidy had 7 kills, and added 3 assists and digs to lead the Lions but Mikayla Robinson also contributed with 5 kills and a pair of blocks. Shayna Manusos added 21 digs along with 4 assists and Jade Martinez added 11 assists and 2 aces.

Rockford Christian Life d. Westminster Christian: Despite a hard-fought second game to try and extend the match, the Warriors (4-7-1, 2-3) fell in the NAC 25-18, 30-28. Savannah Dutcher (6 kills, 5 blocks), Emma Kovachevich (4 kills, 9 assists, 9 digs), and Jackie Calabrese (2 kills, 4 aces, 5 digs) led Westminster.
