Wainwright wins No. 20 as Cardinals beat Cubs

The Cardinals' Adam Wainwright became the second visiting pitcher to Wrigley Field in four days to win his 20th game as St. Louis beat the Cubs 8-0 Monday night.

Last Friday, the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw ran his record to 20-3 by beating the Cubs 14-5. Wainwright improved to 20-9.

For the Cubs, left-hander Travis Wood made his final start of a disappointing season. He fell to 8-13, and his ERA rose from 4.86 to 5.03. Wood lasted 5 innings, givingup 8 hits and 7 runs, 6 earned. Last year, he made the National League all-star team and reached the 200-innings mark for the first time in his career. This season, he wound up at 173⅔ innings.

The Cardinals rocked Wood for 4 runs on 5 hits in the fourth inning. Jhonny Peralta hit a 2-run double. In the fifth, St. Louis scored 3 more, with Matt Adams driving in 2 with a single.

Wainwright pitched 7 innings of 3-hit shutout ball. His ERA fell from 2.45 to 2.38. It is the second time he has reached the 20-win plateau.
