Small explosion, fire in Glen Ellyn injures two

Two people were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening Monday after a small explosion and fire at a Glen Ellyn home, officials said.

Firefighters responded at 10 a.m. to a report of a fire on the 300 block of Farnsworth Court, authorities said.

The small fire was confined to a laundry room, police said. Authorities said one of the victims, a 60-year-old man, was working on a gas-fed clothes dryer when there was a small explosion.

Both the man and a 23-year-old woman were burned and taken to different hospitals.

"The lady's injuries were relatively minor, but the man's injuries were a little bit more severe," Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company Chief Jim Bodony said.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Damage was estimated around $10,000, Bodony said.
